Cosmetic dentistry describes a variety of treatments that can be used to improve your smile appearance.

Teeth whitening is an economical way to make a dramatic change to your smile appearance. Clinical strength whitening ingredients may be applied in our office or in the comfort of your home using custom mouth trays. Most patients see their teeth lighten several shades with professional teeth whitening.

Dr. Gowasack uses dental composite filling materials and adhesive bonding techniques to smooth chipped teeth edges or to close small gaps between teeth. Dental composite shades can be matched to natural teeth, so the small bonded areas are hardly noticeable. These small restorations can make a big difference in helping to create a uniform smile appearance.

When teeth require more coverage, dental crowns or veneers may be used to create a bright, vibrant smile. Crowns are necessary when the tooth requires substantial repair or extra strength for chewing; veneers are custom facings that are applied to front teeth to conceal minor flaws. Crowns and veneers are designed and fabricated in a dental laboratory, and are more long-lasting than dental composite filling materials.

Science takes over when a tooth is lost, other teeth begin to move to fill in the open space, either from the sides or the top/bottom. This type of tooth movement can lead to more problems down the road. Dentists recommend that missing teeth be replaced to protect the bite. (The exception would be wisdom teeth, most patients do not have room for these).

Another advantage to replacing a missing tooth is improving smile appearance. Dental implants are tiny metal inserts that take the place of the tooth ‘root’ and are used to secure a custom crown, bridge or denture.
